Services

Shelter

The Shelter is a place of safety and respite for adults and children who are experiencing domestic abuse. The shelter is staffed 24 hours a day and provides not only the basic necessities for its residents but also support services. The shelter is accessible on a walk-in basis at 302 S. Union, Decatur, and through the 24-hour telephone hotline: 217.423.2238.

Counseling and Support Groups

Individual and group counseling is provided to adult and child residential/non-residential clients.   Check the calendar for support groups time.  An intake is necessary before attendance at any group meeting.

Legal Advocacy

Legal advocacy is an integral part of the Domestic Violence Program. Staff members assist victims of domestic violence in obtaining Orders of Protection, as well as their legal options. Legal Advocates are available to accompany the victims as they maneuver their way through the court system.  A Victim's Advocate is also located in the Macon County Building.

Children's Services

Children receive specialized services such as individual and group counseling. Support and nurturing are importance components of Dove's children's program.

Referral

The Domestic Violence Program is a cooperative member of the social service community. When necessary, staff refer clients to other agencies or groups for wrap around services.

Education

Domestic Violence Program staff provide the community with education, training, workshops and seminars about domestic violence issues on a regular ongoing basis.  The Domestic Violence Education and Volunteer Training is currently being offered in the Spring and Fall.

Training is available for individuals interested in educating themselves on the issues surrounding domestic violence. The training will take place April 29 through May 15, Monday through Thursday afternoons from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., in Decatur, at Dove, 302 S. Union, Dean Simcox Conference Room. This 44-hour training is approved by ICADV, Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence. This training is being facilitated by two Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professionals, one of whom is also an Illinois Certified Partner Abuse Intervention Professional. There is a $200 fee for the training.

To register, contact Barbara Blakey at 217.428.6616 after March 4. A phone interview is the first step in the process and needs to take place by Noon, Monday, April 15.
