It is with some sadness that I announce that Dove will be closing its recycling facility. I have often said that Dove is not in the recycling business but in the community business. For almost 30 years, the recycling center has allowed the community to show its support for Dove and other community programs by recycling aluminum cans.
At the height of the program we recycled more the 100,000 pounds annually. Last year, only 55,000#. This year our pace is even less. The good news is that the community continues to recycle. Other recycling centers have been able to pay more and families are utilizing the blue bins at their homes to reduce what is being dumped into landfills.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who collected cans for Dove or volunteered at the center.
The closing date is June 6, 2015.
Dove strives to fulfill its mission of meeting the unmet needs of the community. Sometimes, that includes recognizing that those needs are being met elsewhere.
