Domestic Violence Education and Volunteer Training
Training is available for individuals interested in educating themselves on the issues surrounding domestic violence. The training will take place April 29 through May 15, Monday through Thursday afternoons from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., in Decatur, at Dove, 302 S. Union, Dean Simcox Conference Room. This 44-hour training is approved by ICADV, Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence. This training is being facilitated by two Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professionals, one of whom is also an Illinois Certified Partner Abuse Intervention Professional. There is a $200 fee for the training.
To register, contact Barbara Blakey at 217.428.6616 after March 4. A phone interview is the first step in the process and needs to take place by Noon, Monday, April 15.
Individuals interested in making a difference in the lives of victims and children served by Dove’s Domestic Violence Program are encouraged to participate in this training. Be an advocate for peace in your school, workplace or church. This extensive training program will allow you to volunteer in many areas, such as support group facilitation, legal advocacy and children's services. Dove provides services to Macon, Moultrie, Shelby, DeWitt and Piatt Counties.
BABES, Beginning Awareness Basic Education Studies, is a program sponsored by Dove, Inc., which brings worthwhile life skill lessons to children in grades K-3rd, in Macon and DeWitt county schools.
BABES will be seeking additional volunteers to cover all of the classrooms requesting this valuable program. If you would like to make a difference in the lives of 6 to 10 year olds, please consider becoming a volunteer.
This volunteer commitment is usually an hour a week for six weeks and that covers two classrooms. The presentations are made in pairs. Bring a friend who can be your partner or be teamed with a person during the training.

Sort donations and assist those seeking clothing. This free clothing room is located at Prairie Avenue Christian Church, 2201 E. Prairie and is open Monday - Thursday, from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Contact Charlie or Sandy at 428.6616 for additional information.
The DeWitt County Food Pantry is looking for a few great volunteers to help support food pantry activities. Volunteers do not have to be RSVP members to serve, just concerned citizens who want to help those in need. Helpers are needed Tuesdays and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on call to serve clients. There are also opportunities once per month to help stock the pantry from items retrieved from Midwest. As the regular scheduled volunteers fly south for the winter volunteers will be needed to ensure continued services to those in need.
